How do we treat a torn earlobe?
Holes in the ears can stretch or even tear completely over the years. However, a punctured or stretched earlobe can be easily repaired.
When is an earlobe correction necessary?
Holes in the ears are basically there to stay, but over time they can get too big or sometimes even tear through completely. This is the case, for example, when your earlobe stretches little by little due to the weight of heavy earrings or fidgeting with them. Also, when a sweater or other piece of clothing gets caught on your earring or piercing when you take it off, holes can get bigger. Sometimes the earlobe even tears out completely. In order to correct or repair the torn earlobe, it is advisable to see a plastic surgeon.
What is the procedure for treating a torn earlobe?
We treat a torn-out earlobe under local anesthesia. Either we cut out the hole or we cut a wedge out of the earlobe. Then we suture the wound and strengthen the earlobe. During this procedure, the shape of the earlobe can also be corrected.
What after recovery from a torn earlobe?
After treatment, there are some band-aids on the wound. Painkillers may relieve any pain, but it is usually not too bad. After 5 days the stitches will be removed. You will look better, but if you are worried, contact your plastic surgeon. After 3 months you can have a new hole made.
