Breast corrections
Would you like tailored advice?
The areola is the pigmented area around the nipple. In some people, the areola is naturally large, asymmetrical, or enlarged due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes, or aging. An areola reduction corrects the size and shape so that the nipple and areola are once again in balance with the breast and body.
When should you opt for areola reduction?
- If you feel that the areola is disproportionate to your breast
- In case of clear asymmetry between both nipples
- If the areola has become larger after pregnancy or breastfeeding
- In case of aesthetic discomfort or uncertainty about appearance
Reduce nipple size
An oversized areola can be surgically corrected with a relatively minor operation. The procedure can even be performed under local anesthesia, so you will not need to be put under general anesthesia. To improve the size or shape of the areola, part of the pigmented skin will be removed. The doctor will make a small incision around the outside of the areola or nipple. This may result in a small scar around the areola, which will fade as much as possible with proper aftercare. The mammary gland and milk ducts are not affected during nipple correction. This means you can breastfeed with confidence after recovery.
Recovery after nipple and areola reconstruction
The procedure will take approximately 30-60 minutes, after which you can go home. For the best results, it is important that you pay sufficient attention to the aftercare of the nipple correction. After the treatment, the skin around the nipple will feel slightly tight. Minor swelling or bruising is normal. The sensation in your nipples may also be altered. Don't worry, this will return to normal after a few days.
Although scars are inevitable with areola reduction, our plastic surgeon does everything possible to make the scars as invisible as possible. After the surgical procedure, the scars will be red and swollen. This is a natural reaction of the body and will subside within a few days. Proper care contributes to rapid wound healing. Therefore, apply scar cream to the nipples as soon as the wounds have healed and keep these areas out of the sun. This will help you achieve the best results.
