Breast lift – the treatment
A breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation. Sometimes, augmentation alone is sufficient to lift the breasts. This is the case when the nipples are above the crease of the breast. If the nipples are below the crease, a breast lift is usually the appropriate treatment method. Of course, your own preferences are also important. If you are satisfied with the volume, an augmentation will often not be necessary. A breast lift operation can be performed on an outpatient basis, but you may also need to stay in the hospital overnight. The operation takes an average of three hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. Because there are different surgical methods for a breast lift, the surgeon will discuss with you in advance which treatment will be used. The most commonly used technique involves removing the skin centrally at the bottom of the breast. The nipple is repositioned and the areola is usually reduced in size as well.
After the breast lift
We cannot guarantee that the operation will result in the desired cup size, but we will do our utmost to achieve the size discussed beforehand. After the breast lift, your breasts will be firmer, but there will be permanent scars. These scars usually become narrower and whiter over time. The shape and sensitivity of the breasts may be different after the operation. After the lift, the breasts will be covered with plasters and the drains (if present) will sometimes remain in place for a few days. You may experience some pain in the first 24 hours after the operation, after which your breasts may feel a little swollen and tender. However, this feeling will gradually subside. Please note that it can take around four to eight months for the breasts to reach their desired shape.
