Facial corrections

A fresh perspective and better visibility
Upper eyelid corrections are among the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures at Duinbergen Clinic. Drooping upper eyelids can not only make you look tired, but also restrict your field of vision. An upper eyelid correction involves removing excess skin to refresh your appearance and improve your vision. Sometimes, muscles and/or fat compartments also need to be corrected.
During a consultation, we carefully consider which technique is most suitable for you. We take into account your facial structure, the position of your eyebrows and the underlying muscles in order to achieve a natural and harmonious result.
Eyelid correction: the treatment
This page concerns upper eyelid correction. Before the operation, the surgeon will assess various factors. He or she will examine the underlying structure of the facial muscles, the bone structure of the face and the symmetry of the eyebrows. This will determine how much skin, muscle and sometimes fat needs to be removed. In some cases, the muscle that opens the eye needs to be tightened. The surgeon will make markings above your eye to indicate where the excess tissue will be removed from the upper eyelids. An incision is then made in the upper eyelid, within the natural crease. The surgeon removes the excess tissue using surgical instruments. Invisible sutures are used to close the skin.
Recovery and aftercare
After about a week, the stitches will be removed and you can usually resume your daily activities. Of course, there will still be some visible signs, and you should avoid strenuous activity. After the operation, you will receive detailed instructions for yourself and your caregiver (this could be your partner, for example) about what you can and cannot do. You will be able to go home soon after the operation, but you will need someone to take you home. It is also helpful to have someone who can stay with you the first night. There are a number of things you can do to ensure the fastest possible recovery. Make sure you have the following items at home:
- ice cubes, an ice pack or freezer bags filled with ice
- small gauze pads for the eyes
- eye drops (ask your doctor for the right type)
- clean washcloths and towels
- painkillers specifically recommended by your doctor
We will provide you with a cold pack and a cream to treat bruising. We will also immediately schedule appointments for LPG lymphatic drainage to minimise swelling as much as possible.
In addition, ensure that you do not have to work for a while and limit your activities for a few days so that your eyelids have a chance to recover.
