Possible techniques
At Duinbergen Clinic, we offer three main options for breast augmentation:
1. Silicone breast implants
Implants with a silicone rubber shell and cohesive gel (does not leak, retains shape).
- Various shapes (round, anatomical teardrop shape) and sizes available
- Surface: micro texture or polyurethane coating
- Choice of width, height and projection
2. Lipofilling (own fat)
Fat is taken from elsewhere in the body and injected into the breast.
Suitable for subtle enlargement or correction of contours.
3. Hybrid breast augmentation
This is a combination of silicone implants and the patient's own fat to mask certain contours.
During the consultation, your plastic surgeon will discuss which option is best for you.
Explanation of breast augmentation treatment
If you are having breast augmentation with breast implants, the surgeon will proceed as follows. He will make an incision, lift the breast tissue, create a so-called “pocket” in the breast area and place the implant in it. This pocket is a space in the breast where the implant fits perfectly. Depending on factors such as the shape of your breasts and your surgeon's recommendations, the breast implant will be placed under or above the chest muscle. Your own fat can be used to camouflage the implants and, in some cases, it can replace an implant. This is called lipofilling.
The operation is performed under general anaesthesia and takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on the technique chosen.
Breast augmentation at Duinbergen Clinic
At Duinbergen Clinic, there are various options for breast augmentation. Silicone breast implants consist of a silicone rubber shell filled with silicone gel. Unlike in the past, this gel cannot leak because it is more cohesive (cohesive gel). The firmness of the gel allows for different shapes to be created. The width, height and thickness of the silicone implants can therefore be tailored to the patient. There are also silicone implants with a special polyurethane outer shell.
A water-filled breast implant also consists of a silicone rubber shell, but the inside is filled with a physiological saline solution. The best prosthesis for you will be decided in consultation with your plastic surgeon.
Finally, your own fat tissue can also be used to improve the shape of your breasts. Whether you are eligible for this will also be discussed during your consultation.
External breast prosthesis at Duinbergen Clinic
Sometimes it is not possible to undergo breast augmentation surgery. In such cases, patients often opt for an external breast prosthesis. This type of prosthesis is not worn inside the body but outside the body, for example in a bra or directly on the skin using an adhesive layer. Have you undergone breast-conserving treatment? If so, a partial prosthesis made of silicone is more suitable. This is placed on the operated breast and supported by the bra.
