Bring balance to your face
The nose plays a central role in facial harmony. When the shape or size of your nose feels out of proportion to the rest of your face, it can affect your appearance. Rhinoplasty (or rhinoplasty) can improve the shape, size and proportions of the nose so that your facial contours are balanced again.
Are you unhappy with the shape, size or angle of your nose? Do you find that your nose is crooked, too big or too small, or out of proportion to the rest of your face? Do you suffer from breathing problems due to irregularities in your nose? Or perhaps you have a nasal hump or a nasal tip that is droopy, too high or too wide? If so, rhinoplasty or nose surgery may be an appropriate solution for you.
At Duinbergen Clinic, we perform rhinoplasty with an eye for both aesthetics and functionality. When necessary, we also improve breathing through internal corrections in collaboration with an ORL doctor.
Types of nasal surgery
There are 3 groups of rhinoplasty:
- Aesthetic rhinoplasty
- Functional rhinoplasty
- Combination of the two
The treatment step by step
- 1. Personal consultation - During the consultation, we discuss your aesthetic needs and create a treatment plan. If functional treatment is required, you will visit Dr. Terryn for a consultation.
- 2. Anesthesia - Depending on the procedure, surgery takes place under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.
- 3. Surgical correction - Incisions are placed invisibly on the inside of the nose; often a small incision is made on the outside at the base of the nose(open rhinoplasty).
- 4. Shaping and repair - Bone and cartilage structures are adjusted and skin is placed over the new shape. The nose is temporarily supported with a splint.
Variations of rhinoplasty
Depending on your complaints and wishes, the type of correction you need will be determined, which can be 1 of the following procedures or a combination of procedures:
- Nose bridge (hump) correction
- Nose tip correction
- Nasal septum surgery
- Straightening(s) the nose
- Reduction of the nose
- Nose wing correction
- Reduce olfactory organ
Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty is also called a rhinoplasty and takes place at AZ Zeno Hospital under general anesthesia, usually you stay overnight.
Usually the plastic surgeon and the ORL doctor work together to get the best possible result while making sure you can breathe well.
This team work is a great asset in this type of surgery.
What will be done and the realistic outcome of such a procedure are discussed in detail beforehand.
Recovery and results
Swelling and blue discoloration around the eyes are normal and usually subside within 1 to 2 weeks. The day after surgery, the wheeze is removed from the nose and you go home.
The splint is usually removed after a week along with the external sutures.
The final result is visible after several months, when the swelling is completely gone.
Aftercare tips:
- Do not blow your nose in the first few weeks
- Sleep with head slightly elevated for less swelling
- Avoid intense exercise for the first few weeks
- Avoid bumps or pressure on the nose
Frequently Asked Questions About Rhinoplasty
How much does a rhinoplasty cost?
During a consultation, we carefully consider which technique is most suitable for you. We take into account your facial structure, the position of your eyebrows and the underlying muscles in order to achieve a natural and harmonious result.
Because every nose is different, we do not provide a price estimate without seeing you first. During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will assess exactly what is needed, and you will receive a detailed, customized price estimate. This way, you’ll know exactly what to expect in advance, with no surprises afterward.
Is a nose job covered by insurance?
That depends on the reason for the procedure. A purely cosmetic rhinoplasty is not eligible for reimbursement by health insurance.
If there is a medical reason—for example, a deviated nasal septum that impedes breathing—then part of the costs may be reimbursed, provided that the applicable criteria are met. In the case of a combined procedure, only the functional aspect is evaluated. After the consultation, we will put this distinction in writing for you so that you can discuss it with your health insurance provider.
How long does recovery take after a rhinoplasty?
The swelling and bruising around the eyes usually subside within one to two weeks. The splint is typically removed after one week.
Most patients return to work after a few days. You are not allowed to drive on the first day after the procedure, and it is best to wait until six weeks after the surgery before engaging in vigorous exercise. The final results will not be visible until a few months later, once the last of the swelling has completely subsided.
Can just the tip of the nose be corrected?
Yes. A nasal tip correction is a targeted procedure in which only the tip of the nose is adjusted, for example, in cases of a rounded or upturned nose. Through small incisions on the inside and outside of the nose, the surgeon reshapes the nasal tip to achieve the desired shape and position.
Because the rest of the nose remains untouched, this is a less extensive procedure than a full rhinoplasty. The surgeon will determine during the consultation whether a tip rhinoplasty is sufficient in your case.
At what age can a person have a nose job?
Rhinoplasty is preferably performed only after the nose has fully developed. Before that point, there is a chance that the shape may still change afterward, meaning the results will not be permanent.
For minors, written consent from both parents is required. If there is a functional complaint, such as difficulty breathing, an earlier procedure may be considered in consultation with the patient.

Can I have my nose reshaped without surgery?
For minor irregularities—such as a slight bump on the bridge of the nose or minor asymmetry—treatment with fillers can sometimes be an alternative. This involves a temporary correction that visually softens the shape; the options are limited, and the results are not permanent.
If you want to address the size, shape, or breathing issues of your nose, you'll need a surgical rhinoplasty. During the consultation, we'll discuss which option is best for your situation.
