Cosmetic surgery on the ear, or a pinna correction, is an aesthetic procedure in which the size, position or proportions of the ear are changed. The final result of ear surgery varies from person to person and depends on the changes desired. What ear surgery almost always brings about is an improvement in self-confidence, especially in children and teenagers. There are different auricle corrections, such as correction of protruding ears with clips under local anesthesia, or with surgery under anesthesia in the day clinic.
When are you considering ear surgery?
- If your hairstyle is affected by protruding ears
- If you do not have a crease in your auricle
- If your ears stick out considerably
Earfold: auricle correction at Duinbergen Clinic
An auricle correction with an earfold is a relatively minor procedure. We perform this procedure under local anesthesia. Photographs are taken before the procedure. The procedure with the implant does not take long, about fifteen minutes. After signing off, an anesthetic is inserted that works almost immediately. We make a small incision at the edge of the ear, then make a cavity for the clip. The implant is inserted and the incision is closed. After a band-aid is applied, you can leave almost immediately. Our specialists strive to make the ears as even as possible, but ears are never completely symmetrical, even in people who do not need ear surgery.
Flap ears surgery
The auricle is an important part of the appearance. The moment the auricles are too large or have an abnormal position, they stand out. It often leads to a great sense of insecurity when people have abnormal auricles. Children in particular can then face bullying at an early age. Through a pinna correction, the shape of the auricle can be corrected. The shape is then changed and the auricle is moved closer to the head.
Do you suffer from protruding ears and are thinking about protruding ears surgery? Correcting floppy ears is also called otoplasty in medical terms. A floppy ear correction through surgery is usually used as standard practice. But today there are also less invasive ways to treat floppy ears. We are talking about the earfold: an innovative treatment in which an implant is used to reshape the ears. The treatment is completed very quickly and recovery takes many times less time than a standard floppy ear surgery. This new technique is especially suitable for people who do not have a crease in their ear. We can try out your eligibility for this already during the consultation with trial clips. If this is not possible, we can still do the standard surgery. A flapoor correction can take place from the time the ears are fully grown. In principle, this is the case in children as young as six years old.
