Looking fresh and rested
Bags, excess skin or fat accumulation under the eyes can make you look tired or aged, even if you feel fit. A lower eyelid surgery removes or relocates excess fat and tightens the skin, leaving you looking fresher and more youthful.
During a consultation, we assess which technique best suits your needs and anatomy. We consider skin quality, muscle support and the position of the fatty tissue to ensure a natural result.
Lower eyelid surgery: the treatment
Depending on the situation, the surgeon will choose one of the following approaches:
- 1. Non-surgical techniques - this uses fillers to improve the circles, there are also various techniques to improve the skin quality of the lower eyelids.
- 2. Single Suture Traction Technique - used when an upper eyelid correction is done, so that the lower eyelid can be stretched through this incision.
- 3. Pinch Blepharoplasty - technique in which only some excess skin is removed just below the eyelash edge
- 4. Lipofilling - own fat is used to restore volume, can be done as an isolated technique or in combination with other techniques
- 5. Transconjunctival technique - through a small incision on the inside of the eyelid, removing or redistributing excess fat (with no visible scar).
- 6. Subciliary technique - through a thin incision just below the lash line, suitable for excess skin and for firming the underlying structures.
- 7. Midface elevator - this involves baring the sunken cheek back up and fixing it at the eye socket edge
In all cases, extremely fine sutures are used on the outside to make scars minimally visible. Often dissolvable strengthening sutures are placed from the inside.
Recovery and aftercare
Recovery after lower eyelid surgery often takes a little longer than upper eyelid surgery because the area is more sensitive to swelling. After 1 to 2 weeks, most of the bruising and swelling are gone. Heavy exertion and bending are temporarily discouraged.
After surgery, you will receive detailed instructions on what to do and what not to do. After the treatment you can usually go home soon, but you will need someone to take you home. It is also nice if you have someone to stay with you the first night. For the fastest recovery period, here are some things you can do. Helpful tools for home:
- ice cubes, an ice pack or freezer bags filled with ice
- small gauze pads for the eyes
- eye drops (ask your doctor for the right type)
- clean washcloths and towels
- painkillers specifically recommended by your doctor
We will give you a cool pack and a cream against bruising. We also make immediate appointments for LPG Lymphatic Drainage to minimize swelling.
In addition, be sure to avoid work for a while and limit your activities for the prescribed time so that your eyelids have a chance to recover.
